Jon Thaxton from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and Sandra Frank from All Faiths Food Bank spoke about the partnership with the school district providing meals to students during the summer. The new "Nutrislice Interactive Menu" on the Food Service website was demonstrated.

The School Board offers to enrolled students, a Health Science program, and Manor Care of Sarasota manages a health care facility. The School Board desires to provide to its students a clinical learning experience and Manor Care of Sarasota has agreed to make its facility available to School Board for such purposes.
Recommendation That the Affiliation Agreement between Manor Care of Sarasota and The School Board of Sarasota County, Florida be approved as presented.

The Island Village Montessori Charter School intends to expand its grade levels to include grades 10-12 beginning with grade 10 in the 2014-2015 school year and adding grade levels each subsequent year. Pursuant to Section 1002.331, Florida Statutes, the school is authorized to expand grade levels. The amendment to the charter contract submitted for approval specifies the terms and conditions to serve students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.

AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SEMINOLE COUNTY, FLORIDA AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA FOR MEDICAID ADMINISTRATIVE CLAIMINGDescription The School Board of Seminole County has developed with the Department of Education a simplified program for management and submission of claims under the Medicaid Administrative Claiming Program. This is a continuation of an existing Agreement and is self-supporting via Medicaid funding.

13. APPROVAL OF THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTION PROJECT GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO BENEFIT ALL SCHOOLSDescription
DISCRETIONARY: Grant funds of $75,842.17 will provide instructional leaders and teachers with professional development, offered by the Center for College and Career Readiness, which is focused on the Florida Mathematics and English Language Arts standards.

14. APPROVAL OF THE VENICE HIGH SCHOOL FIELD TRIP TO CHICAGO, ILLINOIS ON MAY 22, 2014 THROUGH MAY 26, 2014Description This is a National Speech and Debate Tournament. Participation encourages skills such as research, critical thinking, communication, persuasion and leadership.
Recommendation That the Venice High School field trip to Chicago, Illinois on May 22, 2014 through May 26, 2014 be approved.
15. APPROVAL OF THE PINE VIEW SCHOOL FIELD TRIP TO CHICAGO, ILLINOIS ON MAY 22, 2014 THROUGH MAY 26, 2014Description This is an inter-curricular Speech & Debate competition.
Recommendation That the Pine View School field trip to Chicago, Illinois on May 22, 2014 through May 26, 2014 be approved.
EXPULSIONS
16. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 14-277Description The student listed in Expulsion Case NO. 14-277, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement. On February 19, 2014, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 14-277, violated School Board Policy 5.34 Attempted Criminal Act Against a Person. It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 2, 2015.
Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 14-277, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2013-2014 academic year, the 2014 summer session, and the entire 2014-2015 academic year.

It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 3, 2014.
Recommendation That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 13-402, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2013-2014 academic year.

Recommendation That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 14-069, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2013-2014 academic year, the 2014 summer session, and until January 14 of the 2014-2015 academic year.

22. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #14-0021 FOR CONCRETE SERVICESDescription Bids to provide 'Concrete Services' were received from four vendors on February 18, 2014. The bid of C-Squared CGC, Inc., was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications based on a sealed scenario. The bid of McLeod Land Services, Inc., was non-responsive to the requirement of providing three commercial references. This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the transfer from capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.
Recommendation That the bid of C-Squared CGC, Inc., to provide 'Concrete Services' in an amount not to exceed $120,000.00, be approved as presented.

The Construction Services' Change Order(s) are summarized on the enclosure for ease of review. These change orders collectively total a decrease of ($305,889.94) in gross contract dollars.
Included in these change orders are ($351,747.34) credit for Direct Material Purchases; the corresponding Direct Material Purchase Orders of ($330,438.00) result a net of $21,309.34 in sales tax savings.

The Superintendent's Financial Statements for the month ending February 28, 2014 does not reflect any unexpected trends for the third quarter of the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Expenditures are anticipated to exceed revenues at year end in the General Fund because of the use of unassigned fund included in the adopted budget.
